Happy 50th Anniversary!
So, this is kind of a random post for me. It isn’t related to decorating, recipes, kids, fashion, or even Beauty.
Well…..
Maybe that last one. You will find out what I mean in a second.
Nope! I found out that today is the Anniversary of something. Something everyone has heard of in one shape or form.
I’ll give you a hint!
“Shocking. Positively Shocking.”
(No? Not yet?)
Ok, then. What about……
“Vodka Martini. Shaken, not stirred!”
(Still? Nothing?)
Ok, then What about……
“Bond, JAMES BOND!”
That’s right, ladies! Oh! And gentlemen.
It’s Happy 50th Anniversary to the James Bond Films.
SO! I thought it would be fun to play a little game. Let’s call it, “The Best of Bond….. James Bond!”
Who do you think was “the best” James Bond????
This question gets asked a lot, but since I have never asked it …. this gives me the right to do so.
So, do you think Bachelor # 1 ???
Roger Moore ?
or Bachelor # 2 ???
( Timothy Dalton )
or Bachelor # 3 ????
( Pierce Brosnan )
or Bachelor # 4 ???
Oops! How did he get in there??? My bad…
I meant,
( Daniel Craig )
OR…….. Last, but DEFINITELY not least…..
May I present Bachelor # 5
The one and only,
( in my best Scottish accent) SEAN CONNERY!
I thought I would just leave you with this picture burned into your memory!
Happy 50th Boys!
T.G.I.F.
F.Y.I. – I know I didn’t technically list all the dudes who played Bond. I only listed the important ones. Please do not take offense to this. ; )
Chicken Piccata
My husband loves Chicken Piccata. He also loves ANYTHING with capers. I hadn’t fixed it in a little while and the other night, I happened to have everything on hand that was needed.
Well,
ALMOST everything. Usually, the recipe I do calls for white wine. Since I didn’t have any of that, I used chicken stock. All that meant was that it would be a good substitute for the wine and my children wouldn’t be walking around bumping into things. J/K
It is actually a really easy, fast meal.
All you need is a some lemons, capers (which taste like mini olives and can be found right next to them in the grocery store), butter, spaghetti noodles, chicken stock, chicken breast and a little flour.
I guess you could call it a 30 minute 20 minute meal.
If you love lemons and olives, you will love this dish.
Recipe: Chicken Piccata
Ingredients:
-4 skinless and boneless thin cut chicken breasts
– Salt/Pepper for seasoning
– All-purpose flour, for dredging
– 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
– 5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
– 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
– 1/2 cup chicken stock
– 1 small jar of brined capers, rinsed
– 1 lb. Thin Spaghetti Noodles
– lemon slices for garnish
Directions:
– Cook Thin Spaghetti Noodles according to package instructions.
– Salt/Pepper chicken breast and dredge in flour. Set aside.
– Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
– Cook chicken breast for 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
– Remove from pan and set aside.
– To the same pan, add lemon juice, chicken stock , and capers. Bring to a slow boil, scraping up any loose brown bits from chicken.
– Return chicken breast to pan and allow to simmer for 5 additional minutes.
– On a platter, layer spaghetti noodles.
– Remove chicken from sauce and layer on top of noodles.
– To the sauce, add butter and whisk until smooth.
– Throw in lemon slices and pour sauce over chicken.
Enjoy!
Burlap Wreaths
When I went to my friends house the other day, I noticed her adorable wreath on her front door.
It was made from Burlap and had the cutest “B” hanging on it for their last name. The first thing I said to her when I came in was, ” I MUST HAVE A WREATH LIKE THAT!”
I asked her where she got it and to my Horror, she said she made it! I say Horror because while I like to think of myself as creative, I have never tried to make a wreath before. However, the Horror changed to Delight when she told me she would make me one. Well two, since I have a double front door now on my house.
Which (sidebar) reminds me! Double front doors are beautiful! In fact, they are fantastic! You can open both when bringing in furniture so you no longer scrape door ways. They have a grand appearance as well.
HOWEVER!
You always have to buy two of every stinkin kind of decoration so that it looks proportioned. Which translates into lots and lots of $.
I’m lucky my good friend loves me and agreed to make them for me for cost. Even if she didn’t, in my opinion they are VERY reasonable. Especially considering their size. She starts with a 22in. grapevine wreath for the base. Adding the burlap makes it even larger!
She makes and sells one of these for $50 each. Here is a link to her Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/#!/KDiddlespropshop?fref=ts
She is awesome and doesn’t just make wreaths, so check it out.
(Apparently, you also have to get 2 welcome door mats or it doesn’t look proportioned!!!)
This is the cute little “Z” she put for mine. I’m thinking about attaching Halloween ornaments for a seasonal look. Regardless, this is a “year round” look, but especially great for the Fall and Winter.
This is the first wreath’s little sister, so she doesn’t get lonely.
And (second side bar) , this was my breakfast this past Saturday morning.
Don’t judge me!
–Happy Monday Everyone! : )
Sweet Tea and Lemon Soap Bar
I thought we would finish up “Sweet Tea Week” with one of my FAVORITE things.
SOAP!
I know what you are thinking, SOAP? And to answer your question……. yes, soap!
I started making my own facial/body soap about 6 months ago. I was on my Anniversary trip which we like to call our “Staycation”. Instead of going on a trip away from home, my parents came to my home and kept the little ones, while the hubby and I took our camper and just parked it at the beach 10 minutes away. I guess I just couldn’t leave them for that long and go out of town. (I’m working on this) Maybe next year?
Oh well, while I was there, I ran out of my regular facewash. I don’t know about you, but I cannot use the same facewash for too long. It will work for me at first, but after about 2, maybe 3 months, something happens and it no longer works for my face. I start to break out really bad and I have to move onto the next thing.
SO!
I went to the store and bought an Aveeno product because in my head, Aveeno was great for sensitive skin, like my own. After washing my face a few times, I started to notice my skin was getting a little dry. Then, the next morning, I woke up to complete HORROR! I had all these little itchy red bumps on my face. I have a rosey complexion anyway, so anything that is red on me, becomes blotchy and irritated looking. I grabbed the bottle of facewash and only then noticed that it said Salicylic Acid as one of the MAIN INGREDIENTS! It was clearly stated on the front, which I clearly ignored when purchasing it.
Let me tell you, all of this didnt go away for the rest of the trip. I, of course, felt like the Prettiest girl in the world with my skin looking like I had some contagious disease!
I was pretty much done at this point with store bought facial cleansers. I told myself that as soon as I got home, I was going to research and start making my own. I basically had nothing to lose. I ended up finding out that Glycerin, which is a moisturizing element that is produced during the soap making process with Lye, is often taken out of regular soap and added to things like lotion. This is the reason that lotion is so moisturizing in the first place! Soap companies end up getting more for their money by being able to produce more products. Don’t get me wrong, their is still plenty of soap that contains Glycerin, but I wanted the main thing in my soap to be Glycerin because it is both gentle and moisturizing for the skin.
Which brings me to this recipe. It is a lot of fun. You don’t have to do sweet tea if you dont want to. I just did because it was fun and I was finishing up Sweet Tea Week. I have done Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint. The possibilites are endless.
Here is what I did:
First, start with a “Melt and Pour” Glycerin base. I picked this up at my local craft store for $9.99 › Continue reading
